Art Connect: Update

I am pretty sure I never started painting until I started schooling and this part of the my works (2 or 3 pieces) is an inspiration from that early years of my life when I started off my first painting. I am taking my chances that my first ever painting was with pencil colors and was a landscape with mountains, a tree, a house, v shape birds flying across the horizon, a snake river, the sun (rising or setting whichever is applicable) and a few children holding hands (or maybe a family). So, here is that painting, once again, minus the V shape birds, the house and the people holding hands. I haven’t named the painting yet because I am looking for suggestion, so please help me named this painting which will be exhibited during the next project.

Now I wanted take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to Clara Bellino, who I have never known/met personally or even spoken a word with before (except that we follow each other on twitter) for coming forward and giving me the much needed push towards the project with her donation. You have an amazing heart. I wish her and her jazz music all the best. Then to Ayana Tomeka, sorry though for that system glitch, I hope it’s resolved now. And yes, I find that picture of you and your mom on your website for the mother’s day very cute. Amanda Armstrong and Chaitra Pollard, sorry for all my intruding disturbances while looking for your professional help. I know I can be such a shameless person at times. I just hope as much as I enjoyed your company, you do also. And Aral Bereux, for featuring my art on her website. An amazing person whose book I enjoyed as much as her company. Well, I am not very good at formalities and even though as I keep fumbling for the right words, all I really wanted to say was thank you, to all. Finally, to all my well-wishers, because your good wishes and words are donations good enough for me and towards the project.

Oh!!! By the way, I uploaded a video of me on my project campaign page and I am pretty excited (or rather awkward) about it because it’s my first ever video ever and was shot just after 5 days of fever and in the middle of a worst cold. So maybe take a moment to watch zombie me. I would love some comments. And also if you decide to do a little donation, here is the link “RandomLives and North East India: Art Connect”.

Last Word: Sorry about the image quality, this is the best I can come up with my old age mobile phone camera while my friend who takes picture for me is out of town. And by the way, do you still remember your first painting?

Randomness

A small time gangster decides to leave behind everything that was once his and start a brand new life with the country girl his parents had arranged marriage for him. Don’t exactly remember the years, but three kids later, I was born. It was not a very classic love story but that was how the story was. Four more kids followed but two died as an infant. But this part of the story is not for today.

I was born so tiny that to imagine growing up as a man sounded like a joke, of course it was a good joke.  Then I found my second love within the lines and pages of some random book my big sister bought and it stayed. Soon, I started keeping journal but most of the pages ended up blank. I started writing down some random stories but never got completed. That was the love story.

Year 1997, a civil riot divided our family into three. My father, my mom and me. My father; because he couldn’t quit his job, so he stayed with my older brother and sister who were in college. My mom; because it was not safe to stay in the town with the civil riot gaining momentum, so she shifted to our now permanent place with my two little brothers. And me; because I had to swap places between mom and dad’s because I was through quarter at school where my dad was and also trying to adjust shifting to a new school where mom relocated. Now it’s all settled.

Physics was what I should have and math is what I graduated with. It all happened in New Delhi. Then my first love decided to come back again in my life. As expected, we fell madly in love again, romancing between colors and canvas. I quit my job. The journey continues.

Last Word: Randomness is everywhere and this life we live is a very small part of this very big randomness, I think.

Uncomfortable Silence

In the past few days, uncomfortable silence has slowly crept in into my world and with it; I am withering, smaller within myself like the Touch-Me-Not flower that had just been touch. Many things that were once mine seems to distance away and I ended up being a mere spectator to the show, but I seem to not liking it, unfortunately. Some of my private galaxies were been blown to bits. I have tried visiting them in my head but then, the small debris from the impact keeps hitting me, it wasn’t comfortable. 10x times, increased my lighting up cigarette. It seems to produce a nice red flame and beautiful smoke rings but from the inside it’s eating me up hollow. 10x times, the rate of my sleep decreased. It seems to give me more time but I found myself with no time. As Charlie Chaplin would say, my lips didn’t know what’s happening with me. It just keeps smiling. But the clouds were slowly forming; now it’s thick and dark. Like an overblown balloon, you never know when it’s going to burst. It’s just clinging on to its final elasticity. It will burst soon…
BAMMM!!!

Music!!! Because that’s all I was left with and Silence!!! Because everything turned painfully silent. Painting!!! Because it’s the only one thing that had not betrayed me and Me!!! Because I seem to barely know myself. Voids were left behind and boundaries being drawn. It was not a word said but it said it all with a piercing thrust. So I tried to withdraw but unfortunately, so did a big chunk of life from the inside. I wasn’t ready for it but it happened and things were never the same anymore. Uncomfortable silence spread; soon it took over most of the things that were once the first thing of the day and finally weaned me like a baby. Options were clear; but options I didn’t want to choose. I needed a hideaway.

As the world came crashing in from, it seems, every direction, questions started to bang my door. I didn’t open. As the confusion over shadowed, I was left to talking to myself. It was no comfort but it seems to be the only comfort. Silence was what was killing me from the inside but silence was all that was found. Memories became more vivid, but this time they wanted to haunt. Somewhere unknown, a Black-Hole was created and it was doing what it should. There seems to be no escape from it, except that you run as far away as possible. But this was a black hole unlike any and it catches up soon. I was tired out running. It’s like one of those days when I am painting and couldn’t decide upon what color to use; those times when disaster always happens in my works. You never know what to expect. You are only hoping for the best when its finish. This is a lonely place and I am an artist inside it. I have problems telling my story and that’s why I paint. I just keep telling myself, “I will get over it”.

Last Word: All these are over now it seems and in a few days, I will be meeting my family. I am so excited about it. I have been missing my mom so very much lately. I can’t seem to even remember her face now…

Where am I?

Ever wondered how big our Universe is? I do that a lot of time and every time I do, it always takes me back to where it started. They say it all started with a Bang and then never stopped. Now even our most brilliant scientist finds it almost impossible to even study. Of course, I will not describe how big or how unimaginable its size is or what’s happening inside. Leave that to Stephen Hawking, I am no expert. But yes, my love for the Universe goes way back, just that, I never had in me to become a scientist. Whatever!!! I just wanted to show you how big I am in this very big vast space that surrounds us. Maybe I am wrong.

 April, 1912.

Four days after she left Southampton, UK, on her trip to New York, US, she hit an ice berg and sank. The date was 15 and yes, it’s the Titanic story. It was her maiden voyage and she carried with her 2,224 passengers and crew. 1502 people died just because there weren’t enough life boats for everyone. Yes we have seen the movie and some of our girls cried the whole North Atlantic Ocean out of the movie. But this isn’t Titanic’s story remember? Okay then, we continue…

Our scientist estimates that our Universe might contain as much as 500 billion galaxies and among one of them is our very own “The Milky Way”, which is supposed to contain approximately 200-400 billion stars. Whatever that figures means, I’ll just take it as something that we shouldn’t even try counting. Now, I’ll not even try to get into light years, I might end up getting exploded (lol).

Figure says, Titanic was 882 feet and 9 inches long and 92 feet and 6 inches wide (wow!!! That’s huge). 106,400,000 km2 is the size of the whole Atlantic Ocean (That’s where the Titanic sank). With this numbers in mind, we take The Milky Way as our tragic Titanic and the whole of the Atlantic Ocean as our Universe. Now, our Solar System, wow!!! It’s almost invincible. Earth!!! Where is Earth? Oh! There it is. It’s visible only through the microscope. Yay!!!

But wait!!! Where am I??? Where am I??? Where am I???.............

That’s the fact. I am nothing at all in the whole universe and so are you. Still we say, “I’m this”, “I have done that”; “My name is”, “My father was”; “Who are you?”, “You are nothing”. That’s our ego and we are even proud of it. Does this make any sense at all? Yes it does and that is shame.

Last word: I know it was not the perfect metaphor. The Universe is still expanding and we are getting even smaller. Ahahaha… Be blessed :)

One Cold Winter Night

The place where I come from, we never get to see the snow and the minimum temperature it can drop during the winter would be around 4°C. And now it would be unfair on my part to even try to explain how cold a winter can get and by the way, our winter here is almost over when I am writing this. So I will not even try to do that. But yes, I would want you to come with me on a walk through some streets one cold winter night.

Title: The Sleep
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Size: 30x24 Inches
Sold to a private collector from UK
Signed and dated at the bottom right hand corner.

If you ever have had the opportunity to walk through the crowded streets of New Delhi before, you will know what I mean. But if you haven’t, here is what it looks like. As you would have already guessed it, it’s always crowded and honestly, it’s not even very safe to walk but the irony is, you are even at your worst if you are driving. It’s almost like a circus show where a person throws knife at an apple placed on another person’s head as the bull’s-eye. You are never safe. One moment, a car will honked at you when it’s almost about to hit you and the next moment you realized a beggar is pulling you from behind (you can even say molesting) for just a two rupee coin. Don’t fall for that unless you have a million in coins. One moment you will realize that you just got hit by a motorbike on a bicycle lane (Yes that happens) and the next moment, someone just pulled you to a corner to show you branded Ray-Ban goggles that you can buy it at “Only For You” price. Of course it’s a fake. And if you are a foreigner or a tourist, God himself will find it hard to save you from all the Auto Drivers and Rickshawpullers (but this I will leave it as homework for you to find it out for yourself). But then, the winter night sets in. Now we walk.
The streets become deserted; fogs rule the roads and some stray dogs cuddle up somewhere in the corners for some sleepless night because of the cold. It’s just the starting. Soon, another layer of coldness will swipe over, that will be near enough to wipe out anything on its way. And then another layer, that will leave the bones of the stray dogs to chatter. Now the show starts and until the first light of the morning takes over and wipe out what just happened last night. You know these layers I am talking about. You have had the taste of its chill even with your warm clothes on and beneath the roof. But somewhere down these streets where we are walking right now, in some corners, someone is taking the same cold with a different degree of coldness as a cut on their skins. Another person is trying hard not to chatter his teeth because it makes him feel even more colder. One kid is shivering so bad that it might even wake up the person next to him. A mother is trying hard to warm her child, but she seems to run out of heat herself. What they need? No!!! They don’t have the strength to think right now. They are too busy trying hard not to be in the list of people who, “Seven people reported death last night due to the cold wave that swipe through the capital”.

Now, my painting doesn’t tell the story of any this people. Nor does it tell the story of what their suffering is or what they need. It was a painting I did here in winter when the cold was at its lowest and a theme based on a winter night when sleeping inside the warm blanket seems like the only comfort left in the whole world. But, that doesn’t mean, their story is not worth telling. It’s a shame that the government seems to be doing nothing for them and even these filthy rich are too busy attending late night parties. And it’s even a shame on me that these are the people who had pulled me for a 2 rupee coin, overcharged me for a rickshaw ride and enticed me for “Only For you” price for some fake Ray-Ban goggles during the day. I hope you like our walk. Stay warm.

Last Words: An original piece, but I must admit, certain aspects of this artwork is inspired by another work, in terms of positioning. More than that, it's an original creation.

Take My Hands And Lets Go Somewhere New...

Have you ever fall in Love? If yes, then you remember how the world around you had suddenly turned itself into a very beautiful magical world and starts to play with you in a very beautiful and romantic way. It was that moment, you realize that the world just perfect for you and your lover to romance and fall in love all over. You look up at the sky, and realized how the sun, the moon, the clouds and the blue skies has turned into some very beautiful and cute magical creatures and now they wanted to kiss you and you were enthralled by their charms. Then you felt the cold and sweet breeze on you skin, your face, your hair and your fingertips and now everywhere and you realize that they were actually playing with you but you got so hypnotized by their play and now you wanted to play more and more. You could have live there forever and ever. When you finally came into your senses and decided to look around, to find very hazy world in front of you but in a very beautiful and colorful way that you start to think, if you ended up somewhere in some Fairy Tales world. Everything looks so perfect, the sun rays seems to guide you, the tree leaves and their followers decides to red carpet your path, people seems to be more cheerful and you ended up just smiling over and over again. They say these things happens in movie, but I say, these things happens in real life, you just have to fall in love. The everything is so quite, so perfect and so serene. Now the painting.

This piece of work is the depiction of those wonderful colors around me and of those simple but wonderful moments that always takes me to another world of surrealism over the years and through seasons. I have always been fascinated by raw beauties. Beauties that exist somewhere where most people will not even expect it to be there, but is there. It only wants to (and will) be observed by those who she decides to show. Like the beauty of the rain and that wonderful feeling of the very minute reflected rain drops hitting my face while I am standing next to a window watching and listening to the rain outside. Or maybe even like some years ago when I use to live a corporate life, everyday on my way to work, I tend to observed at those very beautiful small flowers with its perfect colors when it blooms on the roadside and get awe at the sight of it. Unfortunately many people will not see their beauties and gets ignored. And yes, Red, Yellow, Blue, Black and White are my favorite colors when I am with my canvas. I even like the color Purple so very much but for now, let the color Purple take its sweet time to tell her own story.

Art...Improvised!!!

Again sorry, because I haven't been regular in posting new post on my blog. Consider me lazy or whatever but here is a new painting I did sometime back but never got posted. Its an abstract art done on Oil on Canvas and of course untitled. As the headline says "Art...Improvised!!!" lets get there, shall we???

The best way to buy colors is, select the colors you usually work with, list it down and buy in bulks. That saves you a lot deal of money in the near future. But there is a draw back with this method, single colors don't come in small quantities and that means you have to buy a lot more then required for the moment (Of course you can and will always use it in future), which means you have to burn a big hole in your pocket at the time of buying it.

Yup, that's my problem. I am a struggling artist at the moment and don't have that much money in my pocket to burn. So my way of buying colors for now is, buy it in sets. When I buy it in sets, colors comes in smaller quantities which is sufficient for me to use at the time and which means lighter to my pocket. Well and good or maybe not... When I purchase colors in sets, at the end of the day there are so many unused colors left behind, inside the set, which I probably might never use it again for the fact that I can't imagine where to fit in those colors in my paintings.

Not anymore!!! This painting was done with those many unused colors which I nearly decided to throw away. Yay!!! I am genius (Just kidding)...Anyway, in the above painting only blue and yellow are the real colors, the rest of the colors are the final result of mixed and use the unused colors effect. Cool huh!!! Well, that's about "Art...Improvised!!!". Apart from that, its an abstract figure of a women and her daughter but still is untitled, which I prefer more these days. And you are free to and more then welcome to have your own explanation and find your own beauty within the painting. I think that's the beauty of being an abstract. No boundaries or boundaries just set by your own imaginations.

          Be blessed.

Have We Met Before???

Sometimes I think that I might be having a Multiple Personality Disorder. One Moment, I am in love, then the next moment, I am nowhere near to love. One moment, I have your attention, then the next moment, I have none of your attention. One morning I woke up like an artist, then the next morning I woke up writer. One moment, I thought of myself as the greatest mathematician ever, then the next moment, I couldn't do a simple addition of numbers. One moment, I want to kill you, then the next moment, I want to cuddle up with you. I think this is getting really serious. I better see a doctor before its too late.

To some, he is just a traveler and to others, a confused man. To some, he just lost everything and is trying to contemplate his lost and to others, he is man in search of his identity which seems to be obscured from him. To some, he is a biker and to others, a mountaineer. And finally, to some, he is Che Guevara and to others, he is Muammar Gaddafi .
To me, he is just another character on my canvas, that happened because of an accidental stroke I did. Originally, it started as an old women figure, and then, the mistake, upside down and it all changes perspective (Of course, you cannot see it because, multiple layers has been already added on top).
And oh!!! about the first paragraph, I was just kidding. It was just a joke and it ain't true. But it was a good start, huh??? Yup!!! Even I thought so.
However on a serious note, they say that a creative person tend to have a multiple personality disorder because of all the characters that keeps running in their head at all times. And its a disease. So, you better watch out if you think you are creative...lol

Be blessed.

Last Words: No face can be just random face and I might have particularly seen this face somewhere. I don't really remember now though. Newspaper, magazine or something... To find out I wouldn't be shocked.

Let's Go Space

I have always been fascinated by space and cosmic objects. Just to think that the stars we see today in the night sky may not be there at all in the first place was enough for me. Then, the Black Hole came into the picture, I fell in love with it. However, A Brief History Of Time by the famous physicist Stephen Hawking blew it away. Now I have no escape. I have came too near within the gravitational field of a Black Hole. Next time, we talk about Supernova Explosion.

Title:  The Meteor

Signed and dated at the bottom right hand corner.

This painting is my first attempt at painting cosmic objects which has always been a fantasy and mystery to me throughout my childhood and still is. Oil on Canvas, The Meteor as you can it yourself, is a view of a meteor in the night sky with a backdrop of a planet.

It took me sometime to complete this painting as it was my first attempt and I frankly didn't know how to paint it so that it looks exactly the same way I thought of as meteors when I was a kid. I guess, I should have take a glimpses from the internet for reference, it would have been much easier that way. Anyway, I am not complaining at the end result at this fantasy.

This one is for my love for spaces. I have a blur glimpses that soon it will follow with a series, I pray for that. A series of heavenly objects in the universe and mysterious black hole. I am already too excited.

Be blessed.

Down The Memory Lane

As a kid and till now, I always hated to be photograph. So as expected, I hardly have any pictures of my childhood. Sometimes, I wished I had taken more pictures of myself as a kid. I miss my childhood. Those days were so much fun. The days of Black and white, or is it?

Title:  Black and White

By the time I was born, color film was taking over and the days of black and white photography was on the verge of extinction. However, I would always want to remember "Black and White" as the color of those days when I was a kid. My mom and dad always looks amazing and romantic in black and white in the old family frame. And Marilyn Monroe became a legend in those days. I guess some our childhood, where spend during those time when pictures developed were in black and white. Now, when I trace back those wonderful time in memories, it takes me through the path of black and white. Nostalgic feelings all over. Oh God!!! "Black and White still lingers somewhere unknown in me."

This painting describe my mood as a childhood and till now, reluctant to be photographed, so it's a moody painting of a lady in black and white. The model in the painting, is a traces of a magazine (I don't remember the name now) that I once saw. Must have been a long time back and it was not in black and white, but she did leave an impression on me. I knew I was painting something like that one day. So, here it is.

Last word, "All I ever wanted was to be a Kid, but this damn growing up will not leave me alone" Ahahaha...

In My Dream

Its must have been like two months, I was dreaming about colors. It was strange because, dreams, as I have remembered, were suppose to be in Black and White. This one was in all vibrant colors. Shades of all colors playing like a wave, though I can't exactly figure out what it was, as it didn't have a definite shape and thus born the "Flower Of Dreams." It's oil on canvas, and as in a dream, it doesn't have a clear defined shape or texture, just a flow. Of course, I didn't dream of any flowers, and in fact, the idea of a flower in it wasn't until I saw a painting online, it seems to give more character to the artwork.

Title: Flower of Dreams
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Size: 49x36 Inches
Painting is not for sale.

The painting in itself has no definite meaning as like in a dream. No specific flower, no specific colors, no specific flow. Just a wave of colors to match up with what I saw in my dream. It's just the interpretation of my dreams on canvas before it fades away from my memory. I did tweet and facebook about these particular dream of mine, many times, but I guess putting down on a canvas was something else altogether. I feel very good after the painting was done and somehow these painting has become one of my favorite painting of all the paintings I did so far. So, join me in my dream and I hope it turns out as everyone's dream too.

Last words: This painting was not painted to be sold. So I might probably pass it down as a gift to someone I would want it to have it. Of course, if the owner decides to sell, its for them to decide. But I would really appreciate, if they decided to do so, some parts goes to charity.

The Story Of Salvation

"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End" Revelation 22:23

Title:  The Story of Salvation
Medium:   Oil on Canvas
Size: 36x46 Inches
Sold to a private collector from India.
Sign and dated at the bottom right corner.

This painting is the depiction of the life and death of Jesus Christ and his ultimate sacrifice. The Salvation from sin.

An abstract painting (Oil on Canvas) of the face of Jesus Christ, depicting his life on earth. Black background depicting the sins of mankind and evil and finally, the touch of  red pointed towards the eyes which is a representation of the blood of Jesus Christ shed when he was crucified on the cross. Thus saving mankind from their sins.

The painting shows a troubled Jesus as he already knew his death, which is depicted by the touch of red which is pointed towards his eyes. "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done." Luke 22:42.

Rather a simple painting abstract painting but carries the story of the life of Jesus Christ on Earth and his ultimate sacrifice for mankind. His final words...

"When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit" John 10:30

Let's Play Color

Color have always been a part of me. Once as a kid, I slept off during an art (Drawing) test and the bigger irony was, my teacher didn't woke me up the whole time. I just took it as she didn't see me sleeping or was she asleep as well. So when I woke up from my awesome sleep, I was just left with a few minutes to finish my test. It was a disaster and a beginning of my play with colors.

When I painted this painting, I was a little confused and down due to many reasons. First, my third exhibition was near the corner and I was a little panicking and confused. It was some months after I left my day job to pursue painting and honestly, I was even a little broke at that time. Lastly, I couldn't find my inspiration of what to paint. Maybe it was the worst time for an artist but anyway, I knew that I had to break free. So, I look at my bizarre childhood for an inspiration and came up with this piece. I wanted play colors.

The final result of all my moods and bizarre childhood is a metallic finish in almost pink, matching up with a intricate and precisely mixed colors. One have to get close to the painting to really see the effect of mixing colors like the one when one drops a drop of color in a concentrated liquid. The dropped colors spreading out slowly to its surroundings.

Some says, it looks ten times better in real life. Other says, it looks like a group of angels and that I should give a name. I decided not to named it.

Be blessed.

Denny Dent, Give Us Wings...!!!

If I tell you this, that a person painted two paintings of Presidents to performing at the Rock & Roll Hall of fame to the stage of the Woodstock '94 concert, do I get your attention? If I did, then here is "Denny Dent" whose repertoire featured Denny's renderings of John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Elton John, Mick Jagger, Billy Joel, Frank Sinatra, and Tina Turner, to name a few.

Denny Dent was born and raised and in Oakland on April 5, 1948 and spend his final days in Denver, where he finally died at the age of 55 due to kidney and heart complications, on March 29, 2004, leaving behind his greatest work, "Brian Olsen" (his student) to continue on with his legacy. Described as the world's only "Rock and Roll Painter", Denny Dent invented a new form of performing art, of what we call it today as "Speed Painting" in 80's and since then the world couldn't look away.

Well, I will not even try to explain who or what Denny Dent or his art form is, because in a million years my words will never do Denny or his art form, a justice. Let Denny do that himself with a video of him painting live (of Jimi Hendrik) at U.W Oshkosh Wisconsin. Thank me later for this video. Do take time and watch the video, you will appreciate it.

If Pablo Picasso is considered as the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century, to the world, then Denny Dent is to me. And it would be unfair on my part to claim that I don't have a artist icon (which necessarily doesn't mean I paint like him or inspired by his works). Of course, when I started as a kid I hardly knew any famous artist (Or even none). But time passed and youtube came into the picture.

This piece of work is a representation of the modern world where we live in today. Where confusion, chaos, frustration etc. lives among us in the suppose to be a perfect world. Virtually we think the world today should be a perfect place with perfect rhythm because of all the convenience surrounding us and our daily lives. Globalization, connectivity, social order, education etc. Perfect lines at the backgrounds depicts this. But in reality, we are more disturbed, confused, frustrated and restless then ever. That is being depicted by the crisscross overlaying above the perfect lines.

Also I felt this way, the world today has turned into more of a feminist with music everywhere and where every other person you know wants to become a pop or a rock star or at the least, in their way of dressing. The touch of Pink and an abstract figure of a lady playing a piano (which one has to observe to see it) depicting this. I just hope we don't lose our identity in the process.

Last words: I love pink and I love being a humanist.
